How commitments, check-ins, stakes and partners work.
A promise to yourself with a deadline and money on it. You say what you’ll do, how often, how you’ll prove it and what a miss costs, then sign it like a contract.
Check in before each deadline and you pay nothing. Miss, and your stake is charged after a 48-hour dispute window.
Press New commitment and follow the five steps: Basics (what you’ll do), Schedule (how often and the deadline), Proof (how you’ll show it), Stakes (what a miss costs) and Sign.
Typing your name on the last step signs it. From then on it’s locked: you can make it stricter, but not looser.
Yes. On Today, press Try it with examples. You get four sample commitments with two weeks of history. They’re never charged or messaged, and you can remove them any time.
While Skipless is in beta no card is connected, so even real misses are recorded in test mode and no money moves.
Make it specific and easy to check: “Gym for 45 minutes, 3 times a week” beats “get fit”. Pick a stake that would sting, not one that would hurt, and a deadline you can actually meet on a busy day.
Adding a partner who hears about misses makes skipping much harder.
Open Today and press Yes, I did it before the deadline. For “times a week” commitments, press Log it each time you do it. If you set it up to need a note, write a line about what you did.
Made a mistake? Press Undo last while the check-in is still open.
No check-in by the deadline, or pressing No, I didn’t. For “times a week” commitments, logging fewer times than you promised in that 7-day block.
Daily and chosen-day check-ins open at midnight and close at your deadline. Weekly ones open on the first day of each 7-day block. One-time commitments are open from the day you sign until the due date.
Yes. On a commitment’s page, under Reminders, add up to three, each by email or text and as long before the deadline as you like (within the check-in window). They only go if you haven’t checked in yet.
Texts need your mobile in Settings, under Messages to you, confirmed with the link we text you.
Your deadlines follow the time zone in Settings, which is set from your device on your first visit. If you change it, a check-in that has already started keeps its deadline, and later ones follow the new time zone from the next day. A change never skips a day or counts one twice.
Yes. Set “When will you do it?” on a commitment, then connect your calendar in Settings, under Calendar. It works with Google, Apple and Outlook and keeps itself up to date. Only names and times show, never stakes.
After a miss there’s a 48-hour dispute window. If you don’t appeal, or your appeal isn’t accepted, the stake is charged when the window closes. Nothing is charged while an appeal or a partner’s answer is waiting.
During the beta no card is connected, so misses are recorded in test mode and no money moves.
Yes. On the Stakes step, switch on A forfeit message: a line in your own words that your partners get if a miss stands, like “I’m a lazy cupcake who owes you lunch at a restaurant.” Pick a ready-made one, from funny to serious, or write your own.
You can use it instead of money or as well as money, and choose to show it in your circles too. It only goes out after the 48-hour dispute window, so an accepted appeal stops it. Skipless never moves money between friends: anything you promise in it is between you.
For now, Skipless keeps missed stakes. Giving them to a charity you pick is coming soon.
The one in Settings, under Currency. It’s set from where you are on your first visit, and you can change it any time, including on the Stakes step. A commitment keeps the currency it was signed in.
You can’t lower a stake or loosen the rules after signing. You can end a commitment from its page: it ends after the current check-in, which still counts, so nobody ends one to dodge a deadline. If no check-in has started yet, it ends straight away.
Usually, yes. On Today or the commitment’s page, press Appeal this miss within the 48-hour dispute window. Say what happened.
You pick one when you sign. Lenient accepts every appeal. Balanced accepts appeals with a genuine reason, and each one is reviewed. Firm needs proof you did it, or proof you couldn’t. Ruthless means no appeals: a miss is a miss.
Sorry about that. Tell us with Report a problem on the Help page, then appeal the miss and say what happened, so we can look at both together.
They get a text or email when you miss, can see a private page with your progress, and can send you a nudge. You choose which commitments they see and whether they see your stakes. They never pay or get paid, and can stop any time.
Yes. On the Proof step, pick them under “Who confirms it?”. They get a message each time you check in. No answer within 24 hours of the deadline means your check-in counts. If they say no, it’s a miss you can appeal.
Small private leaderboards you join by invite link. Members see each other’s streaks, statuses and the names of the commitments you choose to share. Never stakes, notes or contact details.
Enter your email on the log-in page and press the link we email you. There’s no password. If the email doesn’t arrive within a few minutes, check your spam or promotions folder, then try again.
Yes, while it’s in beta, with as many commitments as you like. When plans start, Free keeps one commitment at a time, and Monthly, Yearly or Lifetime let you have as many as you want. See Settings, under Plan and payments.
Only you, plus the partners and circles you choose, and only what you share with them. Your calendar link is private to you: anyone with it can see commitment names and times, so you can reset it in Settings.
